PM Lee calls on Singaporeans to continue making Singapore exceptional. And Singapore, a small island state of five million people, is indeed exceptional.
Its prime minister is exceptionally the world’s highest paid head of government – six times more than what the world’s richest economy with over 300 million people, pays its chief executive.
Singaporeans save an exceptional 36% of their wages into the CPF but strangely do not have enough to retire on because they are paid an exceptionally low interest for their retirement fund while they have to pay exceptionally high prices for their HDB flats though the land on which the flats are built are acquired at exceptionally low cost.
Instead of being exceptionally compliant I would prefer Singaporeans to be rationally conscious of their rights and continue being rational because being exceptional only serves the narrow interest of the ruling party and their elites.
